ARAKUNDOE OH ARAKUNDOE: Fighting Oblivion For Justice and Humanity

ATAKANA TV – Yesterday, February 3, 2025, as part of the oppressed people of Acheh, we once again remember the dark tragedy that took place in Arakundoe, an event that became one of the symbols of serious Human Rights (HR) violations in the history of the Acheh conflict.

This tragedy, although more than two decades have passed, still remains a deep wound for many, especially the families of the victims and the Achehnese diaspora who still have a sense of humanity.

As decided in the 2023 meeting of the Acheh-Sumatra National Liberation Front (ASNLF) in Norway, the main task of the Achehnese diaspora is to "Fight Forgetfulness" by continually commemorating the human rights violations experienced by the people of Acheh. One form of this is remembering the Arakundoe tragedy.

This tragedy occurred during the conflict when several civilians became victims of violence. The incident triggered by military actions around the Idi Cut sub-district military command office, which then led to a mass clash.

In the midst of the chaos, at least 13 people were killed, some of their bodies thrown into the Arakundoe river, placed in sacks filled with stones to ensure they sank, with the aim of erasing evidence.

According to historical records and victim testimonies, this event reflects a conflict resolution pattern that uses military violence. This is clearly seen as a grave violation of Human Rights, considering the victims were unarmed civilians protesting.

The people of Acheh and the diaspora must be aware of the importance of continuously remembering this event so that they understand that the country (+62), especially those in camouflage, always resolves conflicts with violence due to the military doctrine in every aspect of society.

"Fighting forgetfulness is not just about remembering, but also about ensuring that justice is upheld and that younger generations understand this dark history, that the perpetrators are similar to the PKI in camouflage."

Education is considered the key to preventing similar tragedies in the future. The younger generation of Acheh is encouraged to use social media as a means of education, in addition to theory and discussions with follow-up actions.

Collective awareness must be continuously built, so that the fight against human rights violations and justice does not stop halfway, especially when it is stopped by former comrades who have now aligned themselves with the enemy.

The Arakundoe tragedy serves as a reminder to us all that true justice and peace can only be achieved if the dark history is acknowledged, fought for, and used as a lesson for the future.
