THE USE OF DIACRITIC MARK IN ACHEHNESE LANGUAGE By Hasbi Yusuf A number of diacritical marks used to clarify and emphasize the writing and pronunciation of words in the Achehnese language are as follows: 1. aigu /é/, 2. grave /è/, 3. Diaeresis /ë/ 4. makron /ô/, 5. trema /ö/, dan 6. apostrof / ’/. Example: 1. Aigu /é/ - ék = up - kéh = pocket - kréh = dagger - padé = paddy. 2.
